Are you one of those impatience people who can’t wait until your preferred Football Manager facepack receives an update and wants to add individual player faces into Football Manager. Perhaps you’re one of the guys who wish to add the player faces of some of the next potential Football Manager 2025 wonderkids such as Francesco Camarda. Regardless of your reasons, our partner FranklyFM84 is here to help you to learn how to add individual player faces into an existing facepack.
Watch the video tutorial on how to add individual player faces to a facepack, or continue reading below for a written tutorial.
Now, on this matter we take into account that you have downloaded a facepack with a missing player face, such as the DF11 Faces Megapack for Football Manager 2024, or wish to add a few player faces to Football Manager 2024 despite you’ve never downloaded a facepack.
Regardless of whether you got a facepack in your repository or not, you need to be capable of either editing an existing xml file or work with a blank xml file. To make it easy, you can download a copy of a blank xml file below.
Step 1 – Find an image of the player to add into Football Manager
The first step is to find an image of the player you wish to add into Football Manager by searching on your preferred browser. When downloading images you need to think about copyright but as long as you’re not considering to use the image for your own use and not earn money by distributing the photo on Youtube videos or on websites, then it should be fine to download what ever player photo. To be 100% on the safe side, you could ask the photographer, or the club, about permission to use the image on your Football Manager save.
Step 2 – Place the player picture into the correct folder
Once you have found the image you want to add into Football Manager, save the image and place it into the user location of Football Manager files. The path is;
Windows:
- \Users[Your Windows Username]\Documents\Sports Interactive\Football Manager 2024\graphics
MacOS:
- Users[Your Mac Username]\Library\Application Support\Sports Interactive\Football Manager 2024\graphics
To be more systematic, you can create an unique folder for faces – simply right click the mouse button and create a new folder called ‘faces’.
Place the downloaded player picture in .jpg or .png format within the /faces folder.
Step 3 – Find the Player ID
To make the player image appear in Football Manager, you need to know the player’s player ID. The only way to get that information is to head into the FM Preferences and make player ID’s visible in the game, or you can find their ID by downloading and importing the Football Manager 24 Editor.
Within the FM Preferences, either search for ‘screen ID’s’ or go to Interface
- Select Show Screen ID’s in Title Bar to assist skinning
Click confirm and go back to the Football Manager game and search for the player. Write down the number (player ID) below the player’s name.
Step 4 – Edit the xml file
Once you know the player ID, download a text editor, like Notepad++.
Then the job begins. Now you need to Enter the ID of the player(s) in the config file. The player ID must be added into both places within the config file as described in seen in the illustration below:
To make the player picture appear, the path to the picture must be identical to the one above. You can also use a tool like FMXML, provided by DF11faces.com, to help to generate and activate the visibility for new (custom) faces in Football Manager. A full tutorial on how to download and use the FMxml tool can be found by clicking on the link above.
Save that config file inside the Graphics/Faces folder.
Step 5 – Manage the in-game settings to display your new graphics
When you have the correct player ID added into a custom config.xml file you need to head back to Football Manager preferences to make the correct player image appear in the game.
- Go to Preferences – Interface
- Turn off, or de-activate; ‘Use caching to decrease page loading time‘
- Torn on, or activate; ‘Reload skin when confirming changes in preferences‘
- Select Clear Cache and Reload Skin – Confirm Changes
Voila! The player image should appear next time you visit the player’s profile.
